Exterior Siding Materials to Consider

Your home’s siding protects your home, but it also bestows curb appeal. When thinking about a siding replacement project, find out what types of siding work well in the Cincinnati area and how each type of siding affects curb appeal.

Wood

Traditional wood siding is a classic option, but it requires routine maintenance and has a high price point. When you need to replace wood siding on a home, the cost may be prohibitive.

Engineered Wood

Engineered wood offers the classic look of wood siding for a fraction of the cost. The material is naturally fireproof, insect-resistant, and water-resistant. One downside to engineered wood is that it can’t be repainted or restained, so after the siding is installed, you’ll have to live with the color.

Plywood Siding

A strong, weather resistant siding option with a variety of finishes. An affordable & sustainably-sourced product that will last for years to come.

Vinyl

Vinyl siding is a classic option that is not only budget-friendly but long-lasting and durable. The latest generation of vinyl siding more closely mimics traditional — and more expensive — materials, so its appearance may surprise you. If you have old vinyl siding that’s discolored or mildewed, or want to replace old wood siding with something that is lower maintenance, vinyl siding may be a good option for you.

Aluminum

Aluminum siding offers low maintenance and high durability, but it can be damaged by weather, such as hail or branches that drop in a strong wind. Given that damaged areas become dented and scratched, this material is not recommended for use in the Midwest.

Stone Veneer

Stone veneer is a popular new siding option that promises the natural appeal of stone for less, since it’s fabricated rather than natural. While stone veneer is cheaper than natural stone, it doesn’t always look authentic. Unless you have a compelling reason to select stone veneer (say, you’re renovating a Tudor house where brick or stone is expected), it’s not the best choice for Cincinnati area homeowners.
